Walker tried out with the Vikings, who apparently liked what they saw despite his long absence from the game.

The wide receiver had some big years in Green Bay but was never the same after tearing ligaments in his knee.

He has attempted several comebacks since his time with the Packers but none have worked out well.

The Vikings must be really desperate for receiver help and very worried about the hip injury to Sidney Rice and the migraines bothering Percy Harvin.

Sources surrounding Favre continue to indicate that he will play this season if his ankle will allow it.

Others believe Favre is blowing the ankle injury out of proportion to avoid training camp, something he is not fond of at this age.

Favre has said many times in the past that he would never quit playing if he could just show up on gameday.

The Vikings are still very much in limbo with Favre and could be in serious trouble if he opts to retire. 

The team’s running back skipped a mandatory workout to attend the festivities in his hometown in Texas.

Childress was angered that Peterson could not get the event and festivities rescheduled for another day.

The coach made it blatantly clear that it was a mandatory workout and important for everyone to be in attendance.

You would think Peterson might try and be around as much as possible after his fumble problems cost the Vikings a shot at the Super Bowl.

The quarterback will now need significant recovery time before he can begin rehabbing and eventually running on his repaired ankle.

Favre could be ready almost in time for training camp or join the team a couple of weeks later, which is probably his preference.

It seems like he waited awhile to have the surgery so that he could avoid having to go through all of training camp with the Vikings.

Favre also recently told the Southern Mississippi baseball team that he would come back next year if they returned to the College World Series.

The quarterback feels like the ankle has healed more of late and he is able to get by without surgery.

What this means for a potential return to the NFL doesn’t appear entirely clear, especially since he seems to change his mind whenever the wind blows.

It still seems like Favre plans on returning next season, but it would seem more likely if he elected to have surgery.

If Favre does return, the Vikings can’t be too pleased that their over-the-hill quarterback is playing on a bum ankle.

The season gets underway with a primetime game at the New Orleans Saints. The rematch of the NFC championship game that features the defending Super Bowl champions will actually be the first NFL game of the season, and what a way to kick things off.

After a couple of easy games against Miami and Detroit, things get difficult once again with a road game against the New York Jets that features a return of Brett Favre to the place he called home for just one season.

That difficult stretch continues with a home game against the Dallas Cowboys followed with challenging road contests against the Green Bay Packers and New England Patriots.

The rest of the schedule is relatively easy, with only a late-season matchup at Philadelphia standing in their way from what could be a perfect record in the second half of the year.

The odds of the Minnesota Vikings walking out onto the field for a game in 2010 and facing a playoff team are 50-50.

The NFC runner-up and NFC North champion in 2009, the Vikings will play playoff qualifiers from last season in eight of their 16 games this fall.

The National Football League has released its list of every team’s home games and road games. Dates and times will be announced later this spring. But even without knowing kickoff times and the order of the games, the Vikings are assured of having a tough road to plow in order to return to postseason play.

Three of the games against playoff teams comes at home. The Vikings will play host to NFC North runner-up and wild-card qualifier Green Bay, NFC East champion Dallas and NFC West champion Arizona. The rest of the home games come against Chicago, Detroit, the New York Giants, Buffalo and Miami.

The road away from home is much tougher: five of the eight games are against playoff teams. Minnesota travels to Super Bowl champion New Orleans, Green Bay, NFC wild-card team Philadelphia, AFC East champion New England and AFC runner-up, the New York Jets. The other three road games are at Chicago, at Detroit and at Washington.

Minnesota’s schedule is tied for 14th with Chicago for toughest slate, based on opponents’ winning percentage from last season.
